The Buzz
August 2012 will be the 35th anniversary of my first zine, Catch the Final Sunrise! (Space: 1999 AU novella). In the months leading up to that, there are a number of other milestones in my fannish career, and I can't think of a better way to mark these occasions than to publish a series of new zines!
Yep, that's right, I'm both nostalgic and certifiably insane! So why not join me on the journey? I'm planning (at least) seven classic gen zines over the next couple of years. They'll be small - roughly around 50 to 100 pages each - and press runs will be limited. I'm planning to hand-collate these zines, use fun papers, and generally have a good time crafting the zines. There will be some online content associated with each zine as well. See below for the titles, fandoms, and submission guidelines - and please pass on to interested fen, communities, and lists. Inquiries or submissions? Please send an e-mail to your humble editor at debwalsh@aol.com! Return to top. The Zines
| The Manifest - Paranormal Multimedia | Sound of the Flute - Kung Fu: The Legend Continues | | I'm Just Sayin' ... - Stargate SG-1 Crossovers | Moonbeam #7 - Themed multi-media - The long-awaited next issue of my first theme media zine is finally coming. And the theme for the next issue is the fandoms of the zines of the '70s - Star Trek, Star Wars, Space: 1999, Man from Atlantis, Fantastic Journey, Starsky and Hutch, UFO, Man from U.N.C.L.E., and Questor Tapes,. Deadline is August 30, 2011, and the publication date is late Fall 2011. I'd originally aimed for February 2011 - 33 years after the milestone Star Wars issue of Moonbeam - one of the first Star Wars zines ever, but my Muse has had her own ideas of time. Planned for the zine are:
Felgercarb #10 - General multimedia - Another long-awaited issue, this multimedia zine will finally feature the conclusion to my BSG story, A Question of Honor! Only 30 years and a bit late ... I have some really nice art to share in this zine, too! Check out the list of fandoms I'd be interested in seeing in the zine listed below. B7 Complex #17 - Blake's 7 - The first US Blake's 7 zine is coming back for another issue - a little more than 30 years since it first debuted in 1981. Arrowflight #2 - Robin of Sherwood - The Hooded Man returns to Sherwood Forest with a new issue. History, magic, drama, humor, Robin of Loxley or Robert of Huntingdon - all are welcome! Already in the pipeline is art by Gail Molnar and yours truly, with some lovely work promised. The Manifest #5 - A Journal of the Paranormal - Paranormal multi-media - is open for submissions in all shows that go bump in the night - from Kolchak to Supernatural, Shadow Chasers to The Vampire Diaries, and everything in between. Watch for new Call for Papers vignettes on the press web site, too, as the zine gets closer. Check out the list of fandoms I'd be interested in seeing in the zine listed below. Sound of the Flute #2 - Kung Fu: The Legend Continues - Get back on the path to enlightenment with Peter Caine, his father Kwai Chang Caine and Captain Paul Blaisdell, and the men and women of the 101st. I'm Just Sayin' ... #3 - Stargate - will see publication of the long-delayed crossovers issue of my Stargate zine. I'll consider SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe fiction, crossed with everything from Pinky and the Brain to Smallville and beyond. Return to top. The Fandoms

Submission Guidelines
Prose: Material should be gen only, ratings up to PG-13. All material must be original - not previously published or posted to the net. All contributors will be asked to hold off posting to the net for a minimum of one year following publication, and if you want to post it at that point, I will be happy to host it, or provide you with the final manuscript so you can post it wherever you like. Manuscripts can be submitted electronically, or by snail mail (send me an e-mail for my mailing address) - no worries on formatting, as I can format manuscripts to suit myself upon receipt. And of course, all submissions will be edited, for grammar, spelling, plot, characterization, and content. I'll work with the authors to polish the stories. Each zine is limited in size (I am hand-collating!), so I will have to be selective regarding length, but until I see what's coming my way, I'm not going to set any size limits. I'm looking for:
Art: Art must be hand-drawn material, pen and ink, charchoal, color or other media. No computer-generated art or blends - although computer-aided art is a tremendous artform in itself, these zines are intended to celebrate the classic fanzines of the '70s and '80s, so I'd like to focus on hand-drawn art. I welcome new artists, as well! I've already got cover art for almost every zine, but I'm interested in portfolio art, poster art (up to 11" x 17"), cartoons, illustrations, and filler art. Please note that like prose, I prefer art that has not been published or posted elsewhere prior to publication. Contributor's copies: There is no zine without contributors. All accepted contributors will receive a copy of the zine in which their work appears. Because of the cost of producing the zines, I'd prefer to have at least 2 full art pages, or 1,500 words minimum. Of course, poetry and filk is a different kind of writing, so we'll work out the minimums based on the work. Return to top. See the Notice regarding use of content and images from this web site. |
